Meet Eddy – My New Home on Wheels
I bought a caravan! And I named him Eddy ;)
For many, this will be old news, given I’ve been sharing updates, photos and videos on Facebook and Instagram over the last couple of weeks, but since not everyone is on social media, I thought I’d do a blog post as well.
Eddy is a 2013 Elddis Crusader Sirocco caravan, a popular UK brand. I looked at several caravans over the last few months, and Eddy ticked all my boxes. He has a full-size bed that’s long enough for 6-foot me, a spacious bathroom and a fridge with a big freezer compartment, three things that were important to me. However, what really made Eddy stand out compared to others I looked at that also had those three things is the very tidy, comparatively modern interior design and the big skylights that let in lots of light.
Here are some photos of Eddy, and there is a video tour at the bottom of this post.
I took ownership of Eddy last Friday when the seller delivered him to the campground in South Brighton. I’ve loved my first week in my new home. It’s so lovely to have a home again, to unpack knowing I don’t have to pack again soon, and to make the space my own.
I have an excellent site on the campground with lots of green around me. It feels very private – or at least as private as you can be on a busy campground. I plan to stay here, at least until Spring. After six years of constantly moving around, I’m looking forward to just being somewhere.
I’ve already been taking advantage of the great location, getting out kitesurfing and paddleboarding last week and going for walks along the estuary and beach – all without using my car once all week. It’s the main reason I chose this spot, and I look forward to making the most of it.
I have to admit, I’m not 100% sure about life on the campground yet. It’s still very busy here, with lots of tourists and locals stopping by. My site is very private, but the noise travels, so I know they are there. Having so many people around is definitely outside of my comfort zone. But you know what they say about the power of stepping outside your comfort zone occasionally, so who knows, I might end up loving it
Alright, that’s my quick update for now. I will share more about caravan and campground life in the coming weeks.
Video Tour
For now, here is a video tour of Eddy.
I built myself a deck!
Since I did the video tour above, I’ve added a very cool, fully removable deck. Check out the video below to see how I did it.
