About this episode
Hello everyone and welcome to my new Podcast, Life Done Differently. My name is Lisa and I’m looking forward to bringing you a series of conversations with people who have escaped the rat-race and who are living alternative lifestyles.
This podcast is not about me but about sharing other people’s stories. As such, I promise you this will be the only episode that’s just me blabbing on about myself. However, I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you why I started this podcast and what to expect from it.
I escaped the rat-race over two years ago when I left my well-paying full-time job in the city to move into my campervan, travel around and figure out what life has to offer when you don’t want to follow the traditional path around work, kids and mortgages. It’s been the most amazing experience and I love sharing my journey on my blog lifedonedifferently.com. Thanks to this lifestyle change, I’ve discovered, or I should say rediscovered, a love for writing. I’ve since written a book called One Size Does Not Fit All and am also a regular contributor for a New Zealand travel magazine called Motorhomes, Caravans & Destinations.
This lifestyle has also connected me to many other amazing people who are doing life differently. A while ago, I started to share the stories of some of the people I meet either on my blog or in stories for the travel magazine.
However, while I love writing, I always felt that some of the best parts of the interviews and conversations I had with people just didn’t translate very well into written words. I often felt like the conversations where so much more powerful than the written stories. So often I walked away from interviews with new insights, a new perspective and just feeling really inspired by what the people had shared with me. I wanted a better way to share that with others.
And so for a while now, I’ve been thinking about starting a podcast instead of just writing articles. That way, people can hear the whole conversation and not just my interpretation of it.
The other reason I loved the idea of a podcast is that it means I can interview people from all over the world, not just ones here in New Zealand. And that’s something I’m really looking forward to.
So what can you expect from this Podcast? My goal is to share an episode every week. In each episode, I will chat with someone who is doing life differently. I want to share a wide breadth of different lifestyles so expect to hear from people living on off-grid properties, in vans or on boats, people who travel full-time, people who chose very unusual careers, people who left the corporate world to start their own businesses as well as people who made small and simple changes in their life to have more time for the things they love.
If you read my blog, you know I love talking about human emotions, personal growth and happiness so expect these conversations to be about more than just what these people are doing, where and how. We will dig much deeper than that.
So that gives you an idea of why I started this podcast and what to expect.
I’m looking forward to bringing you the first “real” episode soon. Make sure you subscribe so you get notified when new episodes go live.
